Back up and restore Application Wizard settings

You can back up your Application Wizard settings so that you can quickly restore them on a new Mac or after upgrading your system software.

To back up your Application Wizard settings:

  1. Open Application Wizard.

  2. Choose File > Back Up Settings.

  3. Change your backup file name and save location as needed.

  4. Click the Save button.

Note: Resume settings are not backed up since Application Wizard disables or enables window restoration by editing your applications’ preference files.

To restore your Application Wizard settings:

  1. Choose File > Import from Backup.

  2. Locate the backup file and click Open. Then click Replace Settings.

  3. If the imported settings came from another Mac or system version, some applications, folders, and files may be in a different location, may have another name, or may be missing. You may therefore need to fix some of the imported paths.

If some of the imported paths are invalid, Application Wizard will show a summary of the paths you should fix and display them in red in the corresponding lists. You can select the summary and copy it to the Clipboard or drag it to create a text clipping.

    Fix invalid items

  4. Resume settings can’t be restored since Application Wizard disables or enables window restoration by editing your applications’ preference files. So please check the Resume pane of Application Wizard Settings (macOS 13 or later) or Application Wizard Preferences (macOS 12 or 11) and see if you need to customize window restoration for some of your applications.

Disable or enable window restoration for specific applications

  5. If you are showing Application Wizard in the menu bar, you may need to adjust its position. Press and hold down the Command key and drag the buttons.
