Switch between applications

Application Wizard lets you quickly switch between open applications. When switching to another application you can also hide the application you were using or hide all the other applications.

Task
Action

Switch to another application

Choose the application from the Switch menu.

By default, Application Wizard reopens applications when switching. To simply make applications active, deselect the “Reopen applications when making them active” checkbox in the Switch Menu pane of the Menus window.

Switch to the previous application

Choose Switch to Previous from the Switch menu.

Use the “Switch to previous application” keyboard shortcut.

Switch to the Finder

Choose Finder from the Switch menu.

Use the “Switch to Finder” keyboard shortcut.

Activate an automatically terminated application

Choose the application from the Switch menu.

Bring a specific window to the front when switching

Display the Switch menu and choose the window from the application’s submenu.

Hide the active application and switch to another application

Display the Switch menu, hold down the Control key, and choose the application you want to make active.

Switch to another application and hide the other applications

Display the Switch menu, hold down the Shift key, and choose the application you want to make active.

Switch to the Finder and hide the other applications

Use the “Switch to Finder and hide other applications” keyboard shortcut.
