Open applications

Application Wizard lets you quickly open favorite applications, recent applications, groups of applications, and applications in the Dock and in the Applications folder.

Task
Action

Open an application belonging to a group

Display the Open menu and choose the application from the group’s submenu.

Open all applications in a group

Display the Open menu and choose Open All from the group’s submenu.

If you have selected the “Make group menu items choosable” checkbox in the Menus pane of Application Wizard Settings (macOS 13 or later) or Application Wizard Preferences (macOS 12 or 11), choose the group from the Open menu.

Use a open or open/quit group keyboard shortcut.

Open all applications in a group at login

Check the group’s “Open automatically” option.

Open more applications at the same time

Display the Open menu and select multiple applications by pressing the Shift key.

Open a Universal application using Rosetta

Display the Open menu, select the application, and press the Control key.

Requires an Apple Silicon Mac.

Open an application without restoring its windows (when window restoration is enabled)

Display the Open menu, hold down the Command and Option keys, and choose the application.

Open all applications in a group without restoring their windows (when window restoration is enabled)

Display the Open menu, hold down the Command and Option keys, and choose “Open All and Don’t Restore Windows” from the group’s submenu.

Open an application in the Dock

Display the Open menu and choose the application from the Dock Applications submenu.

Open a recently used application

Display the Open menu and choose the application from the Recent Applications submenu.

Open an application in the Applications or Utilities folder

Display the Open menu and choose the application from the Applications or Utilities submenu.
