Viewing metadata associated with pictures

When previews are enabled, the Special menu lets you easily view the information that digital cameras and image editors store in pictures.

Embedded metadata usually include general image properties (size, resolution, depth, orientation, color space, ... ), the settings used when the picture was shot (exposure time, F-number, ISO speed, metering mode, flash information, ... ) and information about the camera. In addition to that metadata can contain format-specific properties (compression method, rendering intent, ... ), the geographical position where the picture was shot, information about the author, a description, and keywords used for classification purposes.

To view the metadata associated with an image file:

Select the file in the Special menu and display the More Info submenu.

Application Wizard shows general, Exif, GIF, GPS, IPTC, JFIF, PNG, TIFF, DNG, and Photoshop properties, Nikon maker notes, and, for photos contained in your iPhoto or Aperture library, iPhoto and Aperture properties.

If you wish to save the displayed metadata as RTF (Rich Text Format), choose Save Info from the submenu, type a name for the file, choose a destination folder from the Where pop-up menu, and click Save.
