Quickly populating groups

To quickly populate your groups you can use the Applications panel. To display it, click the Applications button in the Groups or Applications pane.

The Applications panel lists running applications, recent applications, Dock applications, applications in the Applications and Developer Applications folders, applications in the folders you have added to the Open menu and, on PowerPC-based Macs with Mac OS X 10.3.9 or 10.4, applications in the Classic Applications folder.

Applications panel

To quickly add applications to your groups, simply drag them from the Applications panel to the Groups & Applications list. To increase or decrease a folder's depth, use the Folder depth pop-up menu. To display application paths, turn on the Info button in the Applications panel and move the mouse pointer over application names. To show an application in the Finder finally, double-click it in the list.

Running and recent applications are automatically updated in the Applications panel as you open and quit applications. To update the Dock applications list (after adding a new application to the Dock) or the list of applications in a folder (after installing a new application or moving an application to that folder), hold the Control key and select the corresponding item in the Show pop-up menu.
